Visiting family homes in Iowa

My parents farmed the Neir family home near Marcus from 1936 until they bought the farm near Meriden in 1959. The first pictures are of the home near Marcus; it was dark at the time but will give an idea to family of what it is like. It shows our family home, Roger relating how as children we would climb to the roof of this chicken house, he would hypnotize the hens and drop them off. (I often wondered how that affected their egg production.)
The other pictures are the farm near Meriden - the bean fields, some of the out buildings, and the old barn. We all had a hand in painting that old barn about 40 years ago. This barn was used for years for "Christmas in the Barn" with the angels in the open loft, bales of hay for seats on the lower level with the animals. Some years over 200 attended this event in sometimes sub-zero temperatures.

Visit to the Family Cemetary in Marcus, Iowa

Since both of my parents, Alice Johnson Neir, and George Neir, were from Marcus, our relatives for several generations are all buried in one cemetary. My grandparents from both sides are there. The Johnson family came from Sweden, the son of George Neir was my baby brother. The Neir graves, Harry and Mary Alice, were my grandparents, George and Alice Neir, my parents. The grave of Roberta Mae Neir was the 6 year old sister of my dad. I was named after her. She died when my dad was 4 years old. Walking through this cemetary has many, many memories. We went faithfully to put flowers on the graves when I was young.

Neir Family Reunion 2009 in Iowa

Don and I just returned from 4 days away to a family reunion in North West Iowa. There were 85 in attendance. This is for the Neir famiy - my father was one of 7 children of Harry and Mary Alice Neir of Marcus, Iowa. Several pictures were taken in front of a large picture of the Harry Neir family at their 50th wedding anniversary. The picture was taken in approximately 1946. The tall man in the back row was our father, George Neir.
The three in front of the picture are my brothers John and Roger, and myself. The larger picture was of all the famiy members of the George Neir famiy that were in attendance.

Vacation Bible School

We are having a great week at Vacation Bible School. Dan and Jully Cunayapi are our missionary project this year. I got the names of the 19 children in their church in Peru and matched each up with one of our children to pray for them. I took a picture of each of them with their Peruvian child's name, and each wrote a letter to send to their new friend. We even got a call from Peru so the children could hear Dan and sing for him, in English and Spanish.
Today we had 28 children. Friday is our last day and will end with a program for the parents, followed by a hot doy feed. Thanks to all who prayed for our VBS.
