Colorado Trip - August, 2012

Don and I spent about a week in Colorado visiting friends in Aurora, Bob and Katie Olsen, spending some time in Colorado Springs, Canon City, and finally in LaJunta vising Bob and Mary Spaid. We started out on a trip on Aug. 16 by going to NW Iowa with intents of going on to Custer, SD, then on to Colorado. I had bronchitis and had to return home after 2 days. I spent most of the next week in bed, then we left again on Aug. 28th. After two days with Bob and Katie Olsen in Aurora, we went to Colorado Springs. We spent the night at Comfort Inn. We visited the North Pole, drove through the Garden of the Gods, and then to Manitou Springs. We drove past the area where several homes burned in the fire earlier this summer. It was so sad to see broken dishes, burned out washers and dryers, etc. just lying in the rubble. There was much clean-up work going on. We could not get another night at our motel, so we went on to Canon Ciy and stayed at the B Motel for a night. We rode on the Royal Gorge Scenic Railroad, then decided to go into the Royal Gorge Park. We rode on the arial tram across the gorge, down the incline railroad, and on the trolley across the Royal Gorge. Then we drove on to LaJunta and visited Bob and Mary Spaid for a couple of days. We enjoyed the fellowship with many friends. Before returning home we had to get some Rocky Ford melons. They had seedless watermelons for $1.00 each for a Labor Day special. The huge canteloupe were about $1.10 each. So of course we had to buy several for friends and relatives. We arrived home about 6:00 p.m. on Labor Day.

Visit to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico Feb. 2012

We took many quilts to the families in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. It has been cool and damp, so they were very happy to receive them. The roads were muddy, but the welcome was warm when we arrived. We were able to visit Baby Roberta, as well as her little cousin, Kenya.

We returned to KS for the month of Dec. Spent Christmas Day at Roger's house with most of their family. Dean and Carol, and Greg, plus Shirley and Cliff came on Christmas night for a get together. The next day Teresa, Karen, and Kate, and Luke, came as well as CLiff and Shirley for another time together.

Back Again!

I have not blogged for a year - computer problems, photo problems, etc.
On Valentine's Day Don had 1600 cc of fluid drained from his lung. After that he really made progress in his recovery from the heart surgery. It was a long process - Home health for a few weeks, followed by rehab. He passed out a couple of times from low blood pressure.
In March we returned to RGBI for 3 weeks. Don was able to work in the shop and enjoyed being back to work.
April brought a garage sale in Hutchinson. In June we traveled to Iowa for our Neir family reunion. Then on to Minnesota to visit Mark and Diane Olsen. A few days were spent in S. Dakota with Dick and Melita.
July brought a trip to California for me to see Dr. Kennedy in Santa Rosa. We had a nice time seeing the sights. In August we went to Iowa to attend Roberta's 50th H.S. graduation reunion.
In August we also spent a week at Jarrott's cabin in Colorado. When we came home Don saw a Dr. due to some blood in his urine. Sure enough - bladder cancer tumor. It was removed the 7th of Septemeber. We then attended the Avant homecoming days. We also spent a few days in Branson,MO.
Oct. 15 was Don's 60th H.S. graduation reunion in Partridge. Then on Oct. 17th we returned to RGBI. I have been teaching Benjamin Morocho, and Don spends his time in the mechanic shop.
