Our day at Lake Titicaca

We were all in the dining room for breakfast at 6:00 a.m. We left on a van to take us to the boat at 6:45. We rode on the lake for about half an hour when we came to Uros Islands. The island is made completely of reeds. The reeds are about 6 feet thick and the islands float. The boats, the houses, and everything there is made of reeds. It was really fascinating. The Quechua women cooked over an open stove and made little biscuits for us. The also offered us reeds to eat. Don did, but I declined. We have many fascinating pictures to share of this when we are home.
After about an hour we stopped at another floating island, then rode for 2 more hours to the island of Tequile. We thought it was another floating island but were mistaken. It was instead a small mountain. They said if you were not really physically fit you should stay in the boat. Don, I and a lady from Denmark did not make the climb. It was an hour up the moutain to the plaza, and then rocky steps descending on the other side of the mountain. So we got off the boat on the other side of the mountain, had some snacks that we had taken along, and enjoyed the hot mountain sun for a couple of hours. There are about 2000 people that lived on that Island, also of Quechua background, but spoke Spanish, and had very unique dress.
The boat guide brought the 3 of us back a lunch of trout, rice, and french fries. We had said not to but they did, saying it was included, then later came and wanted 20 soles for the food.
We arrived back about 5:00, then went to the main square for supper. After that we passed out tracts in the plaza. Don sat down and soon had 3 Quechua women trying to sell him things. One lady insisted that we needed a reversible Quechua stocking cap. After saying No so many times we finally relented after she reduced her price.
I put it on and we walked back to our hotel. Boy, did my head itch! Sure hope we didn´t buy little critters with the hat.
I am getting a cold, so would appreciate prayer that we don´t get really sick.
We have tomorrow here at Puno yet, leaving at 5:00 p.m. for our 5 1/2 hour ride back to Arequipa.
